All Inclusive Tourism without the tech
Rural Alberta has cabins and it has event spaces. It doesn’t serve both in the same space.
Waypoint bridges the gap between premium tourist venues and mid-market amenities, leveraging clean energy, a multi-faceted revenue model, and unique experiences spanning corporate retreats, private functions, regional entertainment, and weddings.
This project entails the design and construction of a net-zero commercial hospitality destination in rural Alberta, consisting of a state-of-the-art 9,000 sq. ft. multi-use event hall and 16 passive built guest cabins.
The property serves as a real world, commercial scale living lab for multi-source microgrids and extreme cold climate circular water systems, demonstrating the commercial viability of fully off-grid net zero operations in the hospitality sector.
The core innovation of this project lies in systems integration, bringing together four distinct renewable energy profiles and an advanced wastewater ecosystem into a single, cohesive infrastructure network.
The strategic value to Alberta is of a viable commercial hospitality site controlling decarbonization strategies and net zero emissions under Alberta’s extreme weather conditions while attracting regional and international tourism.
Identifying Real World Problems
Advancing Solutions
A passively built sanctuary designed to decouple high-end tourism from environmental impact, not powered by tech.
Hospitality for the eco-conscious adventure seeker, casual explorer, and the average bear looking for something different to do.
By pairing a multi-source renewable energy microgrid with passive built cabins and a multipurpose event hall, Waypoint represents a scalable blueprint of independent clean energy and responsible land management strategies for the eco tourism industry.
Waypoint Acres is a working demonstration of practicing sustainable hospitality.
The Result
The Hospitality Elephant in the Room
As of 2024, Travel & Tourism accounted for 7.3% of total global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. [1]
The environmental impact of the hospitality sector is dominated by three drivers:
The accommodation sector accounts for more than 20%. [2]
Features that define a premium guest experience (year-round climate control, spa facilities, entertainment) are the highest drivers of energy consumption. [3]
Meaningful decarbonization without compromising the guest experience requires an intentional effort to implement viable emission reduction strategies. [4]
The microgrid is the invisible engine that allows guests to completely unplug. Geothermal and solar energy power the property, with renewable biomass backups. No fossil fuel in any capacity.
The passive architecture and living wetlands create a sanctuary to detox from technology without sacrificing five-star comfort.
The event hall is home to unique experiences in a state-of-the-art environment. Comfort and quaintness at the same time.
The cabins feel like tiny homes with all the comforts of home including a full kitchen, hot water, flush toilets, and laundry. Not to mention they all come with private hot tubs.
The free outdoor activities that include fat bikes, hand bikes, show shoes, all-terrain wheelchairs, Ninja obstacle course, MUGA court, outdoor escape rooms, all designed for grown-up play time.
The wellness pavilion houses cold plunge baths and heated loungers. Not quite enough for every guest so booking is required (no waiting lines of strangers standing in the wings).
A mocktail menu that will change your mind about rhubarb. Waypoint is a dry venue. Alcohol is never allowed on site.
Families are always welcome with the awareness that this is a calm and restful space.

The 9,000 sqft purpose-built event hall offers a custom thrust stage, creating an inviting atmosphere and obstruction-free sightlines. The professional A/V system gives every event the tools to project clarity of sound and cinematic displays.
Corporate clients can check off their scope-3 sustainability requirements for business events and conferences, couples can host an all-inclusive destination wedding with outdoor activities in a natural environment, cultural communities can host large catered gatherings, eco-conscious travelers and families can book retreats and getaways that align with their personal values, and the average eventgoer can enjoy unique evenings out with friends in a variety of memorable and engaging functions.
Waypoint redefines recreation and entertainment experiences by ensuring that the sustainable energy sources that power every function on the property, do so without limiting experiences or comfort levels.
And all within a forty-five-minute drive from Edmonton, in a uniquely inviting rural setting.
